The Victorian Engine House and pumping station at Walthamstow Wetlands is located on a fully operational 211 hectare Thames Water reservoir site. It is also an internationally important nature reserve, providing home to a wide range of wildlife. The major renovation works allowed the centre to reopen to the public for the first time in 150 years. The entire site was redesigned and cost-effective solutions were achieved for all heating, ventilation and lighting. An LPG boiler system was installed to provide efficient heating, and opening roof lights give natural ventilation throughout the building.
