The Victorian Engine House and pumping station at Walthamstow Wetlands is located on a fully operational 211 hectare Thames Water reservoir site, the main source of water supply for 3.5 million people. It is also an internationally important nature reserve, providing home to a wide range of wildlife. The major renovation works allowed the centre to reopen to the public for the first time in 150 years.

The entire site was redesigned and cost-effective solutions were achieved for all heating, ventilation and lighting. Despite the abundant water supply posing design challenges, our engineers managed surveys and created sensitive designs to house all gas pipes, water and electricity services against the original brick walls. An LPG boiler system was installed to provide efficient heating, and opening roof lights give natural ventilation throughout the building.
