Originally opened in 1872, the Young V&A (formerly the V&A Museum of Childhood) is a world-leading museum designed to creatively inspire children and young people. It re-opened in 2023 with three new permanent gallery spaces titled Imagine, Play and Design.

For the building’s major transformation, P3R Engineers worked alongside De Matos Ryan Architects for the base-build refurbishment works, and AOC Architecture for the subsequent gallery fit-out. We designed a hybrid ventilation system for the large gallery halls, utilising the existing roof-lights for natural ventilation, supplemented by mechanical ventilation when conditions require. Fan coil heating units and radiant panels provide optimal heating in winter, and care has been taken to ensure the ventilation system complements the existing building fabric of this Grade II* listed museum.
