Founding Director
Michael is a Chartered Engineer with a commitment to sustainability with expertise in low carbon and passive design engineering. He established P3R Engineers in 2012, following his position as Director at Michael Popper Associates, which he founded in 1990.
As well as leading the business and guiding the P3R team, Michael continues to collaborate with architects, supporting the integration of building services into the design process. He is especially interested in finding the passive design potential in both new and existing buildings, advocating for uncomplicated yet effective building services. He has applied this approach in several innovative projects, including the Ruskin Library at Lancaster University, and the Stirling Prize shortlisted Bushey Cemetery.
Alongside P3R, Michael delivers lectures and presentations in building services design and energy performance. His voluntary work includes being a sustainability adviser for The Dioceses of Southwark and St Albans, and the Watford Shaping Panel. He also provides design services for the humanitarian architecture charity Article 25.
